My Sewing Machine

Well, I still think of this blog as a little notebook for me - and I love it for that! It is the first notebook I have ever had that I am not able to misplace, lose, tuck into a drawer somewhere and spend hours looking for.... etc etc. I have noticed though, that a few people have come here looking for information about Lervia sewing machines, so I want to give them some information. I'm not an expert, or professional, but I did learn to sew on my Mum's machine a little before I started school and so before I learnt to read and write. Thirty years ago - eek, how did that happen? I've had this machine, I think, for about two years, and she has got a fair bit of use in the last year and a half. For the price, I think it is a pretty solid mechanical machine. To me, the weight of the machine indicates that it has more metal than plastic parts, which I take as a good sign. The biggest problem I have had is with tension , partly my fault. And this little bit of crafting stayed at home

New cushion inserts and removable covers. Fingers crossed Lucky doesn't eat them! I finally broke down, the furniture shop a few doors down from me had the cheapest sofas I've seen here on special offer just before Christmas, I bought one. Despite adding found-on-the-street foam and cushions, sitting on the terrible sofa supplied by the landlady was still uncomfortable, it was really just a skeleton of a sofa as all the base and back cushions were missing. In celebration, and semi-need, I made these cushions and covers from the last little bit of scraps of some favourite material I had leftover from other projects- the ribbon hides where I pieced together the corduroy left over from a skirt. The backs are plain black and greyish linen cut from some old worn out trousers. So a little bit of old and a little bit of new - and I got to enjoy the holiday in comfort. :-)

Any opinions please?!!

I was thinking of machine quilting the top below with one of these variegated threads - but now I'm not sure? I was originally thinking of the candy floss thread, but now I wonder if it is too light. hmm. I think that I will avoid the solid pink and beige blocks, and hand quilt them with words/designs. I have a beige fabric with a green fern-like pattern on it for the backing - I'm thinking maybe using a plain beige thread in the bobbin? But, I'm not sure, maybe it would be better to use the same variegated thread in the bobbin so any possible showing through top thread isn't so obvious? Any advice/opinions? I'd be very grateful for any input.
